Self Care September: Meditation Streak

I have slowly been incorporating meditation into my life this year.

I started out by downloading the Buddhify app (iOs/Android, ~$7) after a friend told mee that she was using it. I love this app. It’s split up into sections (Going to Sleep, Travelling, At Home, Waking Up), so you can pick the type of meditation you’re looking for in that moment. I’ve tried every single one of the Going to Sleep & Can’t Sleep meditations (sense a theme here?). The meditations vary in length from a few minutes up to 20, which is great. After using this regularly for the last six months or so, I decided to expand my zen.

I tried the Headspace app (iOs/Google Play/Amazon, free trial then ~$12 a month). I loved the free trial, but since I was already using another meditation app, I didn’t feel the need to pay for Headspace. It is super easy to navigate and you can choose your length of meditation sessions. After the free trial, you can choose other packages (including one that focuses on anxiety).

During a therapy session, I mentioned to my psychologist that I had been practicing meditation. She said that another one of her client had been going to a meditation studio and loved it. She gave me the name and I googled it when I got home. The rest, as they say, is history.

The studio, Lifestyle Meditation, has been like a breath of fresh air for me. I am currently on leave from work to deal with some health issues and I have used this time to focus on being present, connecting with myself, and self care. Lifestyle Mediation has been a huge part of this process. I feel revitalized and recharged. Connected and present. I feel like my mind has shifted over the last month. It seems silly to say, but when I stepped through the door of Lifestyle Meditation, my life was for ever changed.

To continue on this path, I have decided to partake in a month long meditation streak for a self-care September. I am going to meditate for at least 10 minutes every day – whether it be through my meditation app, independently, or at the studio. Having experienced such a shift in my mindset over the last month, I am excited to see what a continuous streak will bring.

If you want to follow along on my journey, I’m going to be chronicling it here on my blog and on my social media accounts using the hashtag #septmeditationstreak If you want join me, please do! I would love to have the company.

  1. I’m going to look up the links you posted, thanks for sharing. I have been meditating for a long time, but the challenge is always to make it a daily habit. I use a wonderful app called Insight Timer, it has more guided meditations than you can throw the Buddha at, but I love the simple timer feature, and the fact you get a gold star every 10 days in a row. Who doesn’t love getting a gold star 🙂
